Not too long ago, the Netherlands got a new, massive shopping center called Mall of the Netherlands.
This enormous center is a collection of a large number of well-known stores as well as new pop-up stores. From sports to toys and from fashion to interior design, there are even car brands established here and a giant cinema built with no less than 11 rooms.
So, there’s plenty to see! We’ll tell you a bit more about ‘The Mall of the Netherlands’ and why you should definitely pay a visit.
What is the Westfield Mall of the Netherlands?
Westfield is an Australian chain of shopping centers, with mostly locations in America. Since 2020, there is also a Westfield Mall in Leidschendam, the Netherlands.
Formerly, the outdated shopping center Leidsenhage was located on this site. This new Leidschendam Mall consists of 6 floors, 2 of which are underground. The ground floor is packed with stores, and on the second floor, there is the large Kinepolis cinema and several dining options.
Perhaps needless to say, but the Westfield Mall of the Netherlands is the largest shopping center in the Netherlands. The site covers about 117,000 m2 and is entirely covered. The stores range from fashion stores to stores for electric cars. There is something for everyone! With 280 stores, bars, restaurants, and supermarkets, you don’t need to visit any other stores after your visit to the Mall Leidschendam.
Where is the Mall of the Netherlands located?
Although it is often said to be in The Hague, it is officially located in the municipality of Leidschendam. This is a smaller municipality but is part of the Metropolitan Region of The Hague-Rotterdam. Since the arrival of the giant shopping center, Leidschendam is mainly known for the Mall of the Netherlands.
Thanks to the convenient location of the Leidschendam shopping center near the A4, it is easily accessible from all over the country.
For navigation purposes, you can use Heuvelweg 1 in Leidschendam as the address and follow the signs for the parking lot from there.
Do you prefer to travel to the shopping center by public transport? The mall is very easily and cheaply accesible by dutch trains. There is a special stop for both the tram and bus at the entrance. This way, you can travel to this covered shopping center with tram lines 2, 6, and 19.
What are the Westfield Mall opening hours?
Compared to regular shopping centers, the Westfield Mall opening hours are very generous! You can shop there on weekdays between 10:00 am and 8:00 pm.
The dining areas, also called the ‘food theater,’ are open longer, namely from Monday to Wednesday from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm and from Thursday to Saturday even until 11:00 pm.
On Sundays, different opening hours apply to the Mall of the Netherlands, namely from 12:00 to 18:00. The food theater is then open from 12:00 to 22:00. So if you want to enjoy a nice meal in one of the restaurants after a day of shopping, you definitely don’t have to rush! There is always a shopping Sunday every Sunday as a standard.
We will discuss which stores can be found in the Westfield Mall later in this article, but we can already reveal that the largest supermarket chains, Albert Heijn and Jumbo, have a large branch in this building.
Their opening hours at the Mall of the Netherlands are different, though. For example, the Albert Heijn XL is open from Monday to Sunday from 07:00 to 22:00. The Jumbo Foodmarket is open from Monday to Saturday from 07:00 to 22:00, and on Sundays from 09:00 to 20:00.
What stores are in the Mall of the Netherlands?
Of course, the most important ones during your day out are the Mall of the Netherlands stores. There is plenty to see in various categories. We have listed the most important stores for you.
Fashion and accessories
Perhaps the most important category is that of fashion, or clothing stores. There are, of course, the well-known chains, such as C&A, H&M, Costes, We Fashion, Zara, and America Today. In addition, the major fashion brands Calvin Klein, Black Bananas, Guess, G-Star Raw, Hugo Boss, and Marc O’Polo are also present with their own store. Besides the mentioned brands, there are many more Westfield Mall stores for fashion to be found in the shopping center.
Home and interior
For lovers of interior design, there are also a few stores to be found. Think of Flying Tiger, Casa, Action, and Xenos, but also Sissy Boy, Riviéra Maison, and Moooi have their own store here. Looking for a new bed? Then you can go to the Swiss Sense store, Beter Bed, or Emma.
Personal care Stores
For personal care cannot be missed at the largest shopping center in the Netherlands. Drugstores Etos and Kruidvat are present with a large location, as well as Douglas and ICI Paris XL. Other stores for care are Lush, Rituals, The Body Shop, and Holland & Barret. In need of a treatment at the hairdresser or beautician? Then visit Hair Together, Day Skin & Lifestyle, or Toni & Guy.
Other stores
Very special and also to be found at the Leidschendam Mall are stores of electric car brands Polestar, MG Motor, and Xpeng. There is also plenty to see for children! For example, there is a large Lego store, Intertoys, and The Gamekeeper with a large amount of games.
Had enough of shopping? Then visit the large Kinepolis and watch a movie in one of the 11 cinema halls. With more than 1600 extra wide Cosy chairs and the 4D movie experience with moving chairs, scent effects, and weather simulations, your visit to the Westfield Mall of the Netherlands is complete!
Parking at the Westfield Mall
If you are coming by car, you also need to park at the Westfield Mall upon arrival. Fortunately, the gigantic shopping center has no less than 5 parking locations. Here you can park for free, so you can save that money for your next purchase. If you come specifically for the food theater, so the food section, it is best to park at P1 or P2.
Keep in mind that it can be very busy on weekends, especially on rainy days at the Mall of Netherlands. It is therefore recommended to park some time before the stores open, so that you are sure to have a free parking spot. Otherwise, you may have to park somewhere else for a fee and then take the tram or bus, for example.
