How to start the South Vern Questline
Once you reach the prerequisite item level of 1340, you can take an ocean liner from any of the port cities to North Vern; trying to access the area by sailing directly to the South Vern port or not meeting the minimum item level will get you turned away, so don’t bother trying to sneak in! From there, you’ll head directly to the Magic Society on the Northeast side of Vern Castle. Talk to Magick Scholar Scadia once you’re inside to begin the first quest, Engraved Distrust.
Engraved Distrust
Once you read the letter given to you, Scadia will cast a spell that will allow you to learn about the origin of the Black Knights. From there, you’ll be off to talk to Avele in the Queen’s Castle, though after chatting with a few of the guards, you’ll find that not only is Avele not there, but she’s also been gone for a while. Instead, you’ll have to take Scadia’s letter to Adjutant Xenoel, in the same area where Scadia sent you, to complete the quest.
The Space Between Shadow and the Moon
With Avele missing in action, your next task is to have an audience with Queen Ealyn further in the castle. She’ll reveal Avele’s current whereabouts to you, but you’ll have to use the /talk emote to ask her about what you can do to help. In Avele’s absence, she offers to lead the Joint training, before sending you to the Senate to explain the change in plans.
The Queen’s Wisdom
Use the Triport in the Crafting District to get you to the Senate, and share with them the Queen’s decision. You’ll be stopped at the door by Adjutant Killian, but protest your case by talking to Killian again, and Grand Secretary Haiger will come outside soon after. Haiger will then explain the state of the Senate, most prominently its Anti-Queen Faction, before allowing you inside.

The the Senate and the Black Knight
Once inside, you’ll be directed to the podium to hear the President’s speech. After a cutscene and an ominous warning from Vice President Satra, talk to Alberto again, and then return to Vern Castle and inform the Queen about your time with the senate.
A Wounded Sky
Once you report to the Queen, head towards the entrance, where you’ll find Scadia and the Magick Society’s president, Elroth, waiting for you. Elroth will tell you of a strange occurrence happening in South Vern, showing you a scroll with a picture of the area’s sky, described as a ‘wound’. Before you head off, talk to the Queen a final time, where she will tell you more about Avele (along with her pseudonym, Rosepetal Peresto) and direct you to Rania Village to meet with Gideon.
An Unexpected Journey
Right next to the Triport, you’ll find your old friend Zinnervale waiting for you. After a quick catch-up, you’ll want to head to the nearby Adventurer’s Guild, which is west of where you found Zinnervale. Very recently, the guild was attacked by Necromancers, and several wounded are strewn about the building. This quest will complete the moment you enter the Guild.
Mayhem
After offering to help the Guild Healer, pick up one of the potions from the nearby bag and offer them to one of the injured- you’ll soon realize you don’t have nearly enough to help everyone. After doing what you can to help, you’ll find Gideon at the back of the building. Explain to him that you need to head South, and he’ll quickly help find you a guide.
The Guide For The Journey South
Gideon’s suggestion for your guide is Xereon, a Sylvain Mage and part of the Ignea guild, and you can learn a bit more about him by reading through the profile Gideon gives you. He also notes that Xereon has been asking to quest with you specifically, once he heard of your previous heroic exploits. After Gideon makes his suggestion, sign the guild mission contract by clicking on his desk. Once you do, Gideon will send your new guide to Mountain Pass, and the quest will be complete.

Tide’s Whisper
With your guide sorted, head to the slums, which are south of the Adventurer's Guild. The quest guide will tell you to find Yukin’s Tavern, but as you arrive, you’ll instead follow energy traces along the ground. Once you reach the end, a nearby Slum Girl will point you to the source, a building to her left. Inside you’ll find another old friend, Wei, offering his healing to residents. You’ll then need to talk to Zinnervale again, who walked in behind you.
Unity of Strength
Now that you’ve caught up with your old friends, head back outside and enter Yukin’s Tavern. Inside, Shandi will instruct you to kneel before him, and afterward will explain that he’s linked his power to yours. With that out of the way, you can finally head towards the Mountain Pass to meet with the Gatekeeper, which you can find on the western side of the village. Show him your permit, and you’ll then be able to enter the Solo dungeon, Mountain Pass, in the following quest.
