Below you will explore the ins and outs of the Emissary Grade which will ultimately have you placing higher and higher on the competitive Emissary Ledgers!

Your Emissary Grade is a measurement of Emissary related actions you preform for a Trading Company as an Emissary. You can only be working towards one Emissary Grade at a time as you can only represent one Trading Company at a time.
The measurement is broken up into five different grades. Grade 1 being the lowest and Grade 5 being the highest. Each action you preform for your Trading Company will help raise your grade until you have maxed it out at Grade 5.
As soon as you raise your Emissary Flag, your Emissary Grade will start to track your progress. You can lose progress on your Emissary Grade if you sink or lower your Emissary Flag.
Your Emissary Grade will also not carry over between sessions. It is session specific and will last as long as you don’t sink or stop representing the Trading Company.
The higher your Emissary Grade, the larger your gold return and reputation progress will be when you turn in your loot to the Trading Company.
At each Emissary Grade, treasure handed over to your Trading Company will be awarded an even larger multiplier! At Grade 5, you will be rolling in gold and quickly climbing the ranks of that Trading Company!
The multipliers for each Emissary Grade are:
- Grade 1 = 1x (100% of normal value)
- Grade 2 = 1.33x (133% of normal value)
- Grade 3 = 1.67x (167% of normal value)
- Grade 4 = 2x (200% of normal value)
- Grade 5 = 2.5x (250% of normal value)
The requirements for raising your Emissary Grade are mainly Trading Company specific. Below we detail what you and your crew must do to raise your Emissary Grade for each Trading Company.
With your purchased Emissary Flag in hand and having the required rank, vote to represent the Trading Company of your choosing at any Emissary Voting Table and lets get started!
You Emissary Grade can be lost if you sink or lower your representation. Your Emissary Grade cannot decrease otherwise.
The Emissary Grade is progressed by action, not by the loot you turn in.
Handing in chests to the Gold Hoarders for gold will not raise your Emissary Grade for the Gold Hoarders. Though finding said chests and placing them on your ship will raise your Emissary Grade for the Gold Hoarders.
You’ll know if you have successfully made progress towards leveling your Emissary Grade if the Emissary tracker appears in the bottom left of your screen.
All loot is not valued equally! The progression of your Emissary grade will be based on the value and rarity of the treasure.
Finding a Crate of Rare tea will has little effect on your Emissary grade compared to a Crate of Ancient Bone Dust. AGold Chicken will be valued more than a White Chicken.
Also, remember: an Ashen variant is worth more and will therefore raise your Emissary grade more than its non-Ashen counterpart. So, you might consider braving the Devil’s Roar…
As we mentioned above, most of the actions you will be completing to raise your Emissary Grade are Trading Company specific. The exceptions to this are the world events in the Sea of Thieves.
While sailing as an Emissary, completing a Skeleton Fort as a Gold Hoarder, Order of Souls, Merchant Alliance or Athena’s Fortune Emissary will progress your Emissary Grade.
The same goes for the other world events such as killing Krakens, killing Megalodons and sinking Skeleton Ships.
Since these world events are available to all pirates sailing the sea making them a higher risk to partake in, you will gain a considerable amount of progression towards your Emissary Grade for defeating them.
You will notice that the Reaper’s Bones is not mentioned in the list above. True, you will not add to your Reaper’s Bones Emissary for completing a world event.
Nevertheless, world events are arguably even better for raising your Reaper’s Bones Emissary Grade than for the other Trading Companies. You’ll see why below…

- Pick up voyage, emergent or stolen Gold Hoarder treasures
- Place voyage, emergent or stolen Gold Hoarder treasures on your ship
- Complete riddle steps from riddle quests
- Complete an entire riddle quest
- Complete an entire X Marks the Spot quest
- Kill a Reaper’s Bones Emissary player
- Defeat a Skeleton Fort
- Defeat a Kraken
- Defeat a Megalodon
- Defeat Skeleton Ships
What is the quickest way to advance your Gold Hoarder Emissary Grade?
While the world events such as Skeleton Forts and Skeleton Ships raise your Emissary Grade a significant amount, you might not feel like taking on such a public challenge. A very efficient Gold Hoarder voyage will do just fine.
Vote on Gold Hoarder purchased voyages until you find one with quests that have plenty of Xs on a X Marks the Spot Quest. An Ashen variant will boost you even more!
You want the most treasure per island to maximize your time sailing between quests. Lots of Xs means lots of treasure to pick up and lots of treasure to put down on your ship. As you get Emissary Grade progression for both this is a great strategy!

- Pick up voyage, emergent or stolen Order of Souls treasures
- Place voyage, emergent or stolen Order of Souls treasures on your ship
- Defeat Skeleton Captains from Bounty quests
- Defeat emergent Skeleton Captains
- Kill a Reaper’s Bones Emissary player
- Defeat a Skeleton Fort
- Defeat a Kraken
- Defeat a Megalodon
- Defeat Skeleton Ships
What is the quickest way to advance your Order of Souls Emissary Grade?
Completing world events such as Skeleton Forts and Skeleton Ships are a great way to raise your Emissary Grade quickly. They are also highly contentious and you might want to take a safer route. A very efficient Order of Souls voyage will do just the trick!
Vote on Order of Souls purchased voyages until you have one that has quests with multiple skeleton bounties per island. If you are in The Devil’s Roar you will see even better results for Emissary Grade progression.
The most skeleton captains per island for an Order of Souls quest is four. Three to four per quest will be an efficient amount to make the most of your time.

- Pick up voyage, emergent or stolen Merchant Alliance treasures
- Place voyage, emergent or stolen Merchant Alliance treasures on your ship
- Capture an animal with a crate
- Place captured animal on ship
- Deliver a cargo run crate
- Kill a Reaper’s Bones Emissary player
- Defeat a Skeleton Fort
- Defeat a Kraken
- Defeat a Megalodon
- Defeat Skeleton Ships
What is the quickest way to advance your Merchant Alliance Emissary Grade?
Skeleton Forts and Skeleton Ships are a great way to raise your Emissary Grade. Though if a crew that is looking to sink you gets in the way you might lose precious time and your Emissary Flag.
Head on over to The Devil’s Roar and vote on an Ashen Cargo Run. Since the Ashen variants of Cargo are worth more than the normal variant, you will be leveling up your Emissary Grade in no time!

- Pick up voyage, emergent or stolen Ancient Fortune treasures
- Place voyage, emergent or stolen Ancient Fortune treasures on your ship
- Pick up a voyage or stolen Chest of Legends

- Complete an Athena’s Voyage quest (8 per voyage)
- Complete riddle steps from riddle quests part of Athena Voyage
- Complete an entire riddle quest part of Athena Voyage
- Complete an entire X Marks the Spot quest part of Athena Voyage
- Defeat Skeleton Captains from Bounty quests part of Athena Voyage
- Kill a Reaper’s Bones Emissary player
- Defeat a Skeleton Fort
- Defeat a Kraken

- Defeat Skeleton Ships
What is the quickest way to advance your Athena’s Fortune Emissary Grade?
As with all Trading Companies, completing world events such as Skeleton Forts and Skeleton Ships will bump you up the Emissary Grades quickly. You also risk losing your Emissary Flag if other crews want in on the action.
Simply vote on and complete an Ashen Athena’s Voyage to raise your Emissary Grade in the quickest way possible. Ashen treasure is worth more than the normal variant so you will achieve better progress towards your Emissary Grade when you finally dig up that Ashen Chest of Legends.
Below are each of the different actions you can do to raise your Emissary Grade while representing the Reaper’s Bones:
- Pick up any Trading Company’s treasures from voyages
- Pick up emergent treasures from any Trading Company
- Pick up stolen treasures from any Trading Company
- Kill any Emissary players
A note about defeating Emissary players. There are diminishing returns on repeat kills of the same player. After a while this diminishing return will reset, but you will be wasting your time in between if you are looking for great Emissary Grade gains.
Another note to take into account is that loot acquired via legit methods such voyages will progress your Emissary Grade a smaller amount than loot that was stolen from other crews.
What is the quickest way to advance your Reaper’s Bones Emissary Grade?
World events drop a ton of loot, and—unlike the other Trading Companies—all of it counts toward your Emissary Grade.
This is why world events are often more advantageous for leveling up your Reaper’s Bones Emissary Grade than any other Trading Company—even though you won’t receive a boost to your grade merely for completing the event like you would representing another Trading Company.
The best world events for leveling up your Reaper’s Bones Emissary Grade will be the ones with the most loot: Skeleton Forts and the Fort of the Damned.
With all your newly found Emissary Grade knowledge, you will be climbing to the top of those Emissary Ledgers in no time!
